Mercy Connections Across the Globe: Mount Mercy Academy Meets Colegio Santa Ethnea of Argentina
At Mount Mercy Academy, we are truly blessed to be part of a global Mercy community that connects us with students, educators, and schools all around the world. From Mercy Montessori programs to high schools and colleges, the shared charism of Catherine McAuley unites us in compassion, service, and faith, no matter where we live.
Recently, our Spanish II students had an incredible opportunity to connect virtually with our fellow Mercy school, Colegio Santa Ethnea in Bella Vista, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Through a Zoom call, students from both schools got to know one another and discovered just how much they share in common. They talked about their favorite activities and sports, the things they like to do with friends, and even their favorite foods and music. It was amazing to see that while there are many cultural differences, there are also so many similarities, from going to the movies or the beach, to “hanging out” with friends.
Students also enjoyed learning about each other’s cultural and holiday traditions, comparing how their families celebrate special occasions in Argentina and the United States. It was a fun and meaningful exchange that brought classroom learning to life. Some students even exchanged Instagram handles and are excited to keep in touch beyond the call!
This experience was a beautiful reminder of how important it is to connect with people from around the world. It reflects the very heart of our Mercy mission and Mount Mercy’s own mission statement: “empowering young women to lead with integrity in a global community.” Opportunities like this teach our students empathy, cultural awareness, and compassion, the true spirit of Mercy in action.
A huge thank you to Mercy Education for helping us stay connected across continents, to the wonderful students and faculty of Santa Ethnea, and especially to our Spanish teacher, Mrs. Nicole Calamunci, for facilitating this amazing experience for our students. We can’t wait for the next call!
