Project Based Learning and Community Partners

Writer: Tina WebsterTina Webster

Project Based Learning in action!

In Mount Mercy’s exceptional project-based learning Honors Living Environment class, students have been engaged in hands-on learning about plant growth and seed development for months. Their journey began with selecting seedlings of their choice, conducting research, tracking progress, and caring for their plants. As part of this immersive experience, students had the opportunity to work with Andrea Masterson, a Horticulturist and Collections Manager at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens. Andrea provided invaluable guidance, answering questions and offering expert advice to support their projects. This collaboration exemplifies the power of experiential learning, reinforcing that hands-on engagement is the best way to deepen understanding. We are proud to offer these enriching opportunities that inspire curiosity and foster real-world skills.

HUGE Thank you to Andrea and Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens! We couldn't do it without our amazing Community Partners!
