HUGE Congratulations to Mercy Alumna Cheryl Meyers-Buth ’84!
Mount Mercy Academy is incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of distinguished alumna Cheryl Meyers-Buth, Class of 1984, who was honored last night at the Bar Association of Erie County’s 138th Annual Awards Celebration. Cheryl received one of the most prestigious recognitions in the legal community — Lawyer of the Year.
This award reflects not only Cheryl’s exceptional career as a nationally respected defense attorney, but also her dedication to the principles of justice and her longstanding commitment to service. Since becoming a defense attorney in 1994, Cheryl has taken on some of the region’s most complex and high-profile cases, representing clients ranging from political figures to individuals facing extraordinarily serious charges. Throughout her career, she has remained steadfast in her belief that “every person deserves a fair defense” and that justice is best served when all participants in the legal system uphold their responsibilities with integrity.
Her peers praise her fearlessness, fairness, and unwavering work ethic. Retired defense attorney Joel Daniels, who worked alongside her on numerous cases, describes Cheryl as having “a rare combination of tireless work ethic and practical wisdom. She is fearless; she doesn’t shy away from a tough case.” The Bar Association cited not only her outstanding legal work across hundreds of criminal and civil cases, but also her significant volunteer efforts and contributions to the profession.
Beyond her impressive legal accomplishments, Cheryl has remained a devoted supporter of Mount Mercy Academy. She was the recipient of the Catherine McAuley Distinguished Alumna Award in 2014, served as the presenting sponsor of the 2018 McAuley Gala through Meyers Buth Law, and has generously returned to campus to speak with our students, inspiring future leaders with her experience, humility, and wisdom.
We could not be prouder to call Cheryl one of our own. Her professional excellence and personal commitment to Mercy values make her an extraordinary role model for our entire community.
Congratulations to an amazing lawyer and an exceptional person!
