HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Senior, Nola Marrero!
Nola has been selected by the Buffalo Bills for the prestigious NFL Latino Youth Honors Award!
The NFL Latino Youth Honors is an annual program that recognizes outstanding Latino and Latina high school student-athletes for their academic and athletic excellence. In partnership with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) and presented by Procter & Gamble, each of the 32 NFL clubs selects one male and one female senior football player as nominees. From this elite group, eight finalists (one from each division) are chosen, receiving grant awards to support their college education, including $25,000 scholarships for the national winners. Finalists also participate in mentorship and leadership activities during Super Bowl LX Week in San Francisco, culminating with recognition at the annual NFL Honors event.
This is a tremendous honor, and we are so proud that Nola has been selected to represent the Buffalo Bills!
At Mount Mercy Academy, Nola shines as a true leader. She is a varsity athlete every season – soccer, winter cheer, and flag football – and serves as captain of all three teams! Beyond athletics, Nola is an exceptional student, at the top of her class, Student Body President, National Honor Society member, captain of Speech and Debate, and active in many clubs including Campus Ministry, Mock Trial, the Merciette school newspaper, and the Leadership Academy.
Her passion for community service sets her apart. Just last night, she was honored with one of the region’s highest youth leadership awards, the Father Baker Youth Service Award, recognizing her dedication, compassion, and commitment to helping others. INCREDIBLE!
We also extend our congratulations to the Buffalo Bills’ male honoree, Alex Burgos Jr. from Canisius High School. Both Nola and Alex are shining examples of how Catholic education prepares students for success – academically, athletically, and as leaders in their communities. Fun fact: Nola and Alex went to elementary and middle school together at West Buffalo Charter School, which gave them a strong foundation for their future achievements!
Tonight, Nola and Alex will be recognized during the Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins game and will be interviewed by CBS Puerto Rico. What an exciting and well-deserved honor!
We are SO PROUD of you, Nola – your success is an inspiration to the entire Mount Mercy family. Congratulations on this incredible achievement! And GO BILLS!
