Mount Mercy Academy Announces Its Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Mount Mercy Academy Head of School Michele Melligan recently named the valedictorian and salutatorian for the Class of 2024.  Vayana Stoyanova and Lacey Sheehan were honored for their outstanding four year academic records.

Stoyanova, the daughter of Elina and Wayne Awald of Gowanda, finished her four years with the highest cumulative average earning the right to be the Valedictorian for the Mount Mercy Academy Class of 2024.  Stoyanova is the president of Student Government, a student ambassador, and a member of campus ministry, book club and the Leadership Academy. In addition, Stoyanova is a section editor of the Mercienne, the school yearbook and is also the editor of the Merciette, the school newspaper.  She is also a member of the McAuley Chapter of National Honor Society and a McAuley Scholar.  In addition, she was a part of the Speech and Debate team and Sparks, the school’s show choir. Stoyanova plans to attend Stanford University in the fall and double major in political science and history, with a minor in religious studies. After graduation she intends to go to law school.

Sheehan, the daughter of Gerard and Linda Sheehan of Orchard Park, completed her years at Mount Mercy with the second highest overall average in the class, and was named as the Salutatorian for the Class of 2023.  Sheehan is a member of the National Honor Society and the book and campus ministry clubs, as well as a McAuley Scholar. She has also been on the golf and volleyball teams for four years, earning All-Catholic honors in both sports.  She will attend Hilbert College and major in accounting while playing volleyball for the Hawks.

Mount Mercy’s Class of 2024 will graduate on May 22tnd.
