Mount Mercy Academy is so proud of Junior Marisa Swinarski for her incredible dedication to service, leadership, and compassion!
Marisa began her service project with Project Flight’s “Books for Kids” program back in 8th grade as part of her curriculum in the Mount Mercy Leadership Academy. Inspired by the alarming statistics surrounding low literacy rates in the United States, Marisa knew she wanted to make a difference, and she has continued growing this meaningful project throughout all three years at Mercy, with plans to continue into her senior year!
Project Flight’s Books for Kids program works to provide books to children and underserved communities, helping promote literacy, learning, and opportunity for young readers. Thanks to Marisa’s passion and determination, this initiative has grown bigger every single year.
This year, Marisa partnered with students from Bishop Timon High School and St. Francis High School, and together they were able to donate an incredible 1,530 books to children and underserved areas in our community! What an amazing accomplishment!
Marisa’s outstanding work and leadership even earned her a live interview on Channel 2 News with Kevin O’Neill, where she shared the impact of this important mission. In recognition of all she has accomplished, Marisa also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Project Flight, an incredible honor that reflects her years of dedication and service.
At Mount Mercy Academy, we are proud to provide our students with opportunities that build leadership, confidence, and compassion, empowering them to create and facilitate meaningful community service projects that truly make a difference.
Congratulations, Marisa! Thank you for leading with compassion and inspiring others through your service. We are so proud of you!
