Mount Mercy Academy Scholar-Athlete Honored
by Pat Burns

Mya Wood (Blasdell), a four-year member of the basketball team, was one of the top 100 Scholar Athletes. She was selected from all of the male and female senior athletes across Western New York, both male and female and both public and private schools. To be nominated, the athlete must have achieved a 90 plus average for the previous six semesters and been a starter or significant player in their winter sport. She was also honored during the fall season for soccer.
Wood was voted to the Monsignor Martin League's Third Team All-Catholic Basketball team. Wood, one of the team's captains, was a strong leader and role model for her teammates, particularly the two young freshmen on the team.
Wood, a tenacious defender, played with passion and intensity. Mount Mercy's Athletic Director Mike Hardy commented, ""Mya's effort and tenacity really stood out on the court this past season. No matter what the scoreboard read, Mya played with passion and intensity till the final whistle."
Wood will continue her basketball career at Hilbert College next year.
