Mount Mercy Athlete Earns All-Catholic Honors

by Pat Burns

Senior Mya Wood (Blasdell), a four-year member of Mount Mercy's basketball program, was voted to the Monsignor Martin League's Third Team All-Catholic Basketball team. Wood, one of the team's captains, was a strong leader and role model for her teammates, particularly the two young freshmen on the team.

Wood, a tenacious defender, played with passion and intensity.  Mount Mercy's Athletic Director Mike Hardy commented, ""Mya's effort and tenacity really stood out on the court this past season. No matter what the scoreboard read, Mya played with passion and intensity till the final whistle."

Wood will continue her basketball career at Hilbert College next year. "It was a pleasure to have Mya be a part of our basketball program during her time here at Mercy and I wish her nothing but success in her future endeavors," Hardy concluded.

"Mercy is more than just a school. Mercy is my second home and a shoulder to lean on. Mount Mercy has given me the confidence and resources to pursue my passions and make the world a more inclusive place, propelling me to take strides into male-dominated fields. Mercy blessed me with an environment to grow intellectually and in the community, giving me the foundation to make a tangible impact while making lifelong friendships."
