Mount Mercy Athletes Earns Scholastic Honors

by Pat Burns

Mount Mercy’s Mya Wood (Blasdell), a four-year member of the soccer team, was one of the top 170 Scholar Athletes.  She was selected from all of the male and female senior athletes across Western New York, both male and female and both public and private schools. To be nominated, the athletes must have achieved a 90 plus average for the previous six semesters and been a starter or significant player in their fall II sport.   Wood had four assists this season and played center midfield.  Wood had the ability to control the ball and win all 50/50 balls, helping to push the ball onto the opponent’s side of the field.  She is also a starter on the school’s basketball team and has played lacrosse as well.

Grace Spero (Buffalo), a second team All-Catholic selection in volleyball, was named an Honorable Mention Scholar Athlete.

"Mercy is more than just a school. Mercy is my second home and a shoulder to lean on. Mount Mercy has given me the confidence and resources to pursue my passions and make the world a more inclusive place, propelling me to take strides into male-dominated fields. Mercy blessed me with an environment to grow intellectually and in the community, giving me the foundation to make a tangible impact while making lifelong friendships."
