Campus Life

Mount Mercy Academy's Campus Ministry Office provides support for the Spiritual Life of the School Community. Students are encouraged to learn and grow spiritually by participating in any of the ministries listed. The challenges of leadership as well as a deeper understanding of discipleship become evident to students in a personal way through their endeavors. They are empowered to make a difference, and the school is enriched because of it.

Ministers of Holy Communion

chalice.jpgInterested students will complete an application that allows them to receive instruction at a three hour after school workshop. During training, they will examine the meaning and tradition of Eucharist.

*SPECIAL NOTE* if a student will be Confirmed during the school year in which the training date occurs, they MAY attend the workshop, but WILL NOT distribute Holy Communion until they have been Confirmed.  Students who attend this training AND have been Confirmed are able to distribute either the Precious Body or Blood during school liturgies.  Because they are commissioned as Ministers of Communion, many students choose to perform this important ministry at their home parishes.

Prayer at Mount Mercy Academy

Students and faculty are presented with a variety of opportunities for both personal and communal prayer

Morning Prayer: Every school day begins with a morning prayer.  Students who are trained as Ministers of the Word volunteer to lead prayer for the whole school.

v  “McAuley Monday” prayers are written by students with a special intention for a selected Sister of Mercy.

v  Each Friday a prayer of healing is said for intentions that have been submitted by the MMA community.  Request slips are always available in the chapel.

Prayer Partners:  This program is a direct link between Mt. Mercy and the Sisters of Mercy whereby advisement rooms are paired with residential communities of Sisters.  Twice a month the school enjoys some precious moments of reflection and send prayer requests to the Sisters who pray for them.  Students who are trained as Ministers of the Word run this program at MMA.

Mercy Prays:  A monthly optional prayer experience for students and faculty.  The school chapel is used during the school day as a place for those who are interested to gather for a brief community prayer time.  Students who are trained as Ministers of the Word assist in the leadership of Mercy Prays.

Prayer Services:  Throughout the year, the school assembles for special occasions to celebrate through prayer services.  Some examples are; Thanksgiving, Lessons and Carols, Ring Day Ceremony, Ash Wednesday, and Penance.  Students take leadership roles in all aspects of school prayer services.

Retreats

Senior Retreat
The senior class will spend one day together at a selected place. Because it is their last retreat together as a class, it features time for reflection, fun and a refreshing break as seniors prepare for January exams.

Junior Retreat
Juniors are treated to a day that helps them explore and identify what makes them unique as a beautiful creation of God! Full of friends and skits, many laughs are shared!

Sophomore Retreats
This is a very special event for the sophomores! Individual religion classes are taken to a local organization for a day. Students learn the mission and work of the place and have an opportunity to carry out service.

Freshman Retreat
The freshman are taken on their retreat the second week of school! They are amazed at the skill with which the upperclassmen lead all activities of the day. Even more amazing is how they become a “class” after spending time getting to know EVERYONE!!
