Mt. Mercy’s Mission Continues…
October 16, 2009
Dear Friends,
In keeping with the Mount Mercy Academy tradition for 105 years, our Board of Trustees is dedicated to
“educating young women for academic excellence, compassionate service, Christian leadership, global awareness and life-long learning…”
Mt. Mercy Academy Mission Statement
As you know, the economic situation is taking its toll on families and private education everywhere. To address this reality Mt. Mercy is taking proactive steps. We are now engaged in a dialogue with Bishop Timon St. Jude High School to explore ways in which the long-term success of both schools can be assured. Both schools are grounded in our neighborhood and in many cases, serve the same families throughout Western New York. We have shared many successful efforts over the years.
We are identifying opportunities for shared services and resources that can lower the cost per pupil of operating each school. We also seek to identify opportunities that enhance the academic and extracurricular offerings of each school. Our mutual partnership with the Catholic Health System is one example of this already happening.
The Boards of Trustees of the schools have set up active lines of communication so that future joint opportunities can be pursued in an active and trusting environment and results can be both achieved and supported by the Boards and the communities of each school.
Our Guiding Principles in this collaborative effort are:
+ Maintain the Catholic identity of each school
+ Maintain single gender education at Mt. Mercy
+ Respect the traditions of each school
+ Maintain the names of each school.
+ Maintain the values and ideals of each school
+ Ensure a sustainable business model for many years to come
We want to reassure our present families that we have not changed our mission. Our purpose is to enliven and sustain it going forward. We
encourage parents of present 8th grade girls to consider Mt. Mercy seriously. Contact Jeanne Burvid, Admissions Director at 825-8796, ext. 511 for information.
We welcome you to Mt. Mercy Academy!
+ Entrance Exam – November 21, 2009

Sincerely,
Sr. Mary Ellen Twist
President, Mt. Mercy Academy
