BENEFIT FOR KAREN MICHALSKI KUKLEWICZ ’86

From WGRZ.com

More than 1,500 Western New Yorkers showed their support on Sunday for a flight 3407 widow who now faces double tragedy.

Karen Kuklewicz suffered a stroke the day before Easter. It came less than three months after she lost her husband, Brian, in the Continental Flight 3407 crash in February outside of Buffalo.

She talks very little, and is paralyzed on side of her body. Her brother, Jeff Michalaski, suspects the stress of losing a husband contributed to her stroke, "You can't go through that without having it affect in some manner."

Perhaps the most impacted by this double tragedy, are Karen's 9-year-old twin boys, Nicholas and Jacob. "It's rough. They were really close with their dad. They ask a lot, they talk a lot about him, which is good. I don't want them to forget their dad," said Michalaski.

Money raised at the benefit will help pay for physical therapy and to take care of her twin boys.

Benefit organizer and family friend, Eric Klaffka, was delightfully surprised with the turnout, "You see the community, the Western New York area have really helped us to come out...with donations, with baskets, just getting calls. It brings you up and it makes you feel good, that there's a lot of good things happening in the world."

Karen is projected to have two to three years left of physical therapy.

How to Help:

If want to help, donate to any M&T Bank. Make checks payable to Friends of Karen Kuklewicz.
